Peer training in Finland held within the ERASMUS+ EQAVET NRP project

Finnish national reference point (NRP) EDUFI organized transnational Peer training for the NRPs representatives and Transnational Peers from Austria, Slovenia and Croatia on 13 and 14 February 2018. The purpose of the training was to acquaint participants with the process of organization and implementation of the Peer Review.

Peer Review in vocational education and training is a form of external evaluation conducted on voluntary basis. It is carried out by an external group of experts, called Peers, consisting of colleagues working within similar environments and on similar tasks. Unlike classic external evaluation, the decisions on carrying on a Peer review, who will be members of Peer team, what quality areas should be tested and on how to use the results are made solely by the inviting institution/VET provider.

Transnational Peer Review is a joint activity of NRPs of Croatia (AVETAE), Slovenia (CPI), Austria (ARQA-VET) and Finland (EDUFI - coordinator) carried out under the EQAVET NRP project. The activity includes workshops, training and implementation of one Peer Review in each of the countries participating in the project. The main focus is the development of quality areas in line with EQAVET (to be tested through implementation) in order to contribute to the development of new elements of the EQAVET framework.

The two-day training was organized in the Keuda training provider in Kerava. Participants were acquainted with the roles of Peers and Peer facilitator and divided in teams to practice interviews and Peer report drafting. Part of the activities was devoted to further development criteria and indicators of new quality areas which will be tested by Peer review.

The participants also attended students' competitions in non-vocational skills in Keuda and visited Perho Culinary, Tourism and Business College in Helsinki where they had the opportunity to speak with the principal and enjoy the presentations of the students.
