The first international peer review successfully held in Croatia

The first international peer review in VET in Croatia was held between 14 and 16 May 2018 in the Matija Antun Reljković school in the city of Slavonski Brod. As a reminder, peer review is a form of voluntary external evaluation, carried out by colleagues from the vocational education system (peers) and on invitation from the school. Unlike the classic evaluation methods in Croatia that cover all quality areas, the peer review is only carried out in those quality areas chosen by the host school. Out of 15 European Quality Areas The Secondary school Matija Antun Reljković selected Planing and Programming of Pedagogical Work and Learning and Teaching that are consistent with our Priority Areas 1 and 2.

This activity was organized by the Agency for Vocational Education and Adult Education within the EQAVET NRP project, as an jointy activity between Croatia, Finland, Austria and Slovenia.

During the three-day visit, teachers and experts from Croatia and Finland gathered in a transnational peer team gained information on selected quality areas. They conducted 45 interviews with students, teachers and expert associates, visited school premises and observed the teaching process. Based on the insights gained during the visit and through the previously submitted self-report, the peer team members gave feedback on selected quality areas' strengths and areas of improvement in front of the full auditorium. The final report aiming to improve the quality cycle was delivered to the school one month after the visit.

Peer review held in Slavonski brod is a significant activity not only because it is the first peer review in VET in the national context but also because of its international character. By organizing and participating in peer review, Agency for Vocational Education and Adult Education has been given the opportunity to improve the peer review process at European level; peer opportunities for learning and cooperation in the international environment, and the school itself was given a valid and anonymous insight into how colleagues within the system see the processes related to quality management as well as opportunities for their improvement.
